Irán Villarreal Belmont, a journalist and former candidate in San Luis de la Paz, was kidnapped and murdered. Authorities are investigating the case.

Journalist, director of the communication medium Observatorio Ciudadano and former candidate for councilor in the municipality of San Luis de La Paz for Movimiento Ciudadano, Irán Villarreal Belmont was killed after being kidnapped, confirmed the Attorney General's Office of the State of Guanajuato. The journalist was deprived of his liberty on Thursday night and his body was found next to the state road Victoria-Xichú.

"Unfortunately, today the discovery of Irán 'N' deceased next to the state road Victoria-Xichú was confirmed. As an administration, we will make all our resources available to contribute to the investigations," stated the state Attorney General's Office.

Irán Villarreal Belmont, a native of San Luis de la Paz, was a law teacher and stood out as a journalist, specializing in denouncing corruption and social injustices. One of his last investigations was about the scam in Xichú and other municipalities in the Northeast region.

"The Public Prosecutor's Office continues with the necessary proceedings to determine the circumstances of the event, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice," mentioned the state Attorney General's Office, which started an investigation file and activated the Standardized Protocol for Investigating Crimes Committed Against Freedom of Expression in response to the report of Villarreal Belmont's disappearance.

The mayor of San Luis de la Paz, Rubén Urías Ruiz, condemned the murder of the journalist and committed to working in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office to provide the necessary resources and demand urgency in the investigations. "We make a firm call to the Attorney General's Office of the State to expedite the investigations, identify and bring those responsible for this unfortunate event to justice," he added.
